Q&A with our Commercial Director, Allister Taylor

When did you start at Peers?

August 2008 for my University placement year. I then returned to University in September 2009 before graduating and returning to Peers in July 2010.

What position did you start as

Trainee Estimator / Quantity Surveyor.

What was your experience like during your placement year?

I gained a broad range of experience working in the Estimating Department, compiling & submitting tenders for bids. Working in the Quantity Surveying Department too gave me exposure to live Contracts awarded to the Business, where I was administering Subcontract accounts and also liaising directly with Clients on the Commercial aspects of Projects.

How have you found the career progression process?

Very positive and rewarding, with guidance from Department Heads and Directors on my career progression, including support on becoming a Chartered Surveyor through the RICS.

What positions have you held at Peers?

Trainee Estimator / Quantity Surveyor. Quantity Surveyor. Senior Quantity Surveyor. Commercial Manager. Commercial Director.

Have you had specific mentors/managers that have helped you along the way?

Department Heads and Director level support, in a Business that strives to provide the highest levels of Client service in the demanding sectors of Nuclear and Defence, whilst promoting family values.

If so, what would be something that you’ve learnt that has particularly helped you?

The importance of building and maintaining positive business relationships with Clients in Peers’ key sectors where repeat business is paramount to the success of the Company.

What would you recommend others to do at Peers should they want to progress?

Work hard, be determined and strive for the best results for the Business. Seeking guidance and support from your team and management is key to personal growth.
